The swimming pool can be used from about May to September; the solar panels help heat it, but only manage to take the chill off.

The pergola next door allows a shady spot for lunch or playing games, while the garage behind the house provides shade for the cars.

Most of the land owned by Charles and Kirstie is the woodland extending below the swimming pool down to the main road beneath. A sloping lawn to the West of the house provides an area for a small orchard.
